Psalm 125

Prayer

Gracious Father, thank you for making us to be at peace with You through Your Son Jesus Christ. Cause us to stand on a level place, secure in Christ to the glory of Jehovah. Do good to us, O God of our salvation; cause us to walk according to Your Word and dwell in safety. Watch over us, protect us, and provide for us according to Your lovingkindness and grace. Amen.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His name!

Thought Provoker

We live in a world that craves security. All about us people cry out for peace and safety. We hear of it on the world scene for peace between nations, especially now that the world is once again in the midst of war. We hear of it on the home front as people cry out for safety from terrorist acts. We even hear of it on the domestic scene as people cry out for the security of health care, release from poverty, and on-going social security into retirement. But from whence does true peace and security come?

Dad’s Study

True peace and security comes only from Jehovah. It is not some kind of commodity that we can barter with God to obtain. Too often men turn to God only for pragmatic purposes with an ulterior motive. They do not desire God, to know Him personally, to glorify Him, to love Him or to serve Him. Instead they desire what it is that God has to offer, peace and security. But the peace and security of Jehovah is only for those who belong to Him. True peace and security, in this life and the life to come, is only for those who trust in the Lord (verses 1-2). The irony is that those who truly trust in the Lord do not come seeking the peace and security of this world; they are not after a temporal life without war or poverty; or a temporal life that is safe and prosperous. Those who truly trust in the Lord seek the safety and security of their souls and peace with their Creator. They seek to be safe from the consequences of their sin and to be reconciled to the One they have offended.
The security of Jehovah is only for His covenant children who have trusted in Him. Their security is inviolable, it cannot be moved and it abides forever. The strength of this security is rooted in the omnipotence of Him with whom we are in this covenantal relationship. He cannot be moved (Daniel 4:35); therefore we cannot be moved. He is eternal (Revelation 4:8); therefore we abided securely for an eternity. The Psalmist uses the imagery of mountains to represent the overpowering strength and immovable nature of God, and thus His covenant children. This imagery resonates with me as I look out my windows to the east and see the Big Horn Mountains and to the west I see the Absaroka Range of the Rocky Mountains. This imagery conveys the permanence and the power of the security of the Lord. Like the mountains that surround my home, so too the Lord’s protection surrounds me. Like these mountains that tower over me, so too the Lord towers over us in a protective posture, just as the hen gathers her chicks under her wings. It is only here that we find true peace (verse 5). Truth in Practice

Family Worship

If you find that you are outside the protective circle of the “mountains that surround Jerusalem” how can these be moved to encircle you? After all, mountains are immovable; how can we come within their protective enclosure?
By faith. The Psalmist has said that Jehovah’s security is only for those who trust in the Lord. That trust is expressed by faith in Jesus Christ as one’s Lord and Savior (Romans 5:1). This is the faith that moves “mountains” (Matthew 17:20).

Catechism Question : 6
Q. How many persons are there in the Godhead?

A. There are three persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one God, the same in essence, equal in power and glory (1 John 5:7; Mt. 28:19).
