Lend A Helping Hand to Haiti!

On January 12, 2010 a major earthquake struck the island nation of Haiti, claiming an estimated 150,000 lives and leaving thousands upon thousands either homeless or afraid to re-enter their homes.

Water and food are scarce and shelter is very limited. It has been reported that there is only one porta-potty for every 2,000 people; sanitation is a major problem and if not dealt with will lead to further death and disease. Due to the massive damage many roads are blocked and transportation of supplies is further hindered by an already dilapidated highway system.

Although some aid has been sent to Haiti, much of it remains undistributed for a number of reasons including the aforementioned bad roads, government red tape and a lack of an established distribution network. It is here that we have a distinct advantage in aiding the people of Haiti. We have been in close contact with a church in the Dominican Republic that is spearheading relief work by reestablishing contact with the churches throughout the effected areas and using them as the launch point from which to distribute and administer aid.

Strategic Advantage!

1. These churches are already in place and are familiar with each other which allows for more effective communication.

2. Because these Churches are already established in neighborhoods and communities they are able to accurately define and prioritize their needs.

3. No one is more able to minister to the needs of others than their neighbors and friends.

4 . When money is sent it is able to be quickly used to purchase the most immediate supplies and be sent from the Dominican Republic to the areas of greatest need.

How Can You Help?

Right now one of the greatest needs is for tents! This will be an ever increasing need as the monsoon season is only a short time away. We have set a community goal to send 1,000 tents to Haiti. We have a supplier of 3-man tents that will deliver them to our teams in the Dominican Republic (Iglesia Bautista de la Gracia or Grace Baptist Church) for $30.00 each! Would you join us in sending tents to Haiti? Each gift of $30.00 will purchase one tent. Perhaps your business or service club could sponsor 100 tents! These tents will not sit on a tarmac at the airport but will be driven in weekly from the Dominican Republic. Please note that 100% of your donation will go directly to relief. You can donatate in a couple of ways. You may give to the Haiti Relief Fund at First National Bank of Powell (all branches), Trinity Bible Church, or make a direct donation by following the Paypal link on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why not donate through the Red Cross or some other relief organization?

A. None of the donations given through us will go to administrative expenses and it will probably get to those in need faster.

Q. How much of my donation will be used to directly help those in Haiti?

A. 100% all of it will be used to purchase and transport supplies.

Q. Why not donate directly through the IBG Haiti FUND on Facebook that the Grace Baptist Church in the Dominican Republic has set up?

A. They have asked us not to use that because they loose 2 ½% to the service fees Paypal charges, and have asked that instead we send them a check. There is no service fee for sending a check and they can then use 100% of all that is donated.

Q. Won’t sending a check instead of wiring the money delay aid?

A. No, they are sending in one group a week with supplies and the two or three days it takes to get the money from Wyoming to the DR will not set them back.

Q. What are the immediate needs?

A. The most immediate tangible needs are for tents, food, water, medicine and personal hygiene supplies.

Q. Why have you only asked for monetary donations and not tangible supplies?

A. Right now the quickest way that we can help is through sending money to purchase the supplies needed rather than having to gather them then find a way to send them to the Dominican Republic. Also by sending money nothing is wasted on shipping expenses and more is used for supplies. That being said, there may come a time when they will not be able to purchase supplies (especially medicine) and it may be necessary to gather them here and send them to the Dominican.
